PROJECT: BLAST RESISTING AND BLAST RELIEVING DOORS

An unusual project where the same building was required to have blast resisting doors to 1 elevation and blast relieving doors to an alternative elevation.Given a required performance specification D.W.Price designed, manufactured, and installed, a total of 14 door sets.

Blast resisting door sets

Double door sets with over panel, unusually opening away from the blast. Doors required to be lockable only from outside, and special bolts had to be designed. A further requirement was that a hold open device was required and a simple latch, with flush threshold to allow trolley access.

Blast relieving Doors

Single door for emergency evacuation. Doors required to be manufactured not only to fail at a specified pressure, but to meet a specified weight and insulation criteria for structural purposes. An explosion would result in special fixings releasing the whole door assembly, which would be retained on special cables for refitting.
